Logo
The idea behind my logo is to present Arabic style, focusing on font, image, and background. I chose a special Arabic font. It’s easy to recognize it as Arabic-style writing. It also has an artistic touch. The palm tree is also part of the Arabic region culture, which makes it easy to recognize the Arabic restaurant. Also, I chose to have the arches in my logo to reinforce the Arabic architecture types. There are palm trees are on either side to keep the logo in balance, and English font at the bottom supports the structure of the logo.

Introduction
This site is located on the corner of Acadian and Government Street. It’s owned by Cangelosi Development. It used to be a space of Rosenfield’s Department Store. It is in a big shopping center, but it is separated from the rest of the shopping center by parking lots. Next to it, on the Acadian side, is CVS Pharmacy, and across the street, on the Government Street side, is Piccadilly Buffet, with small retail businesses nearby. The building is on a busy traffic street and business area. It’s close to Downtown, it’s a little bit far from the interstate, but it’s busy. The building is not directly on Government Street, it’s a little bit far from the street, which gives it a big parking lot.

concept statement
Concept Statement
My design is to capture the authentic, relaxing atmosphere, good hospitality, and the quality of healthy food of a specific region of Syria. I focused on the oldest continuously habituated city in the world, Damascus, as a model. I was inspired by the old traditional houses of Damascus and their food, which is predominantly organic. The concept of courtyards diffused from the Middle East to Africa, from Africa to France, and from France to America. My design will incorporate the serenity of courtyards, fountains and native plants and flowers. I also will use old Islamic architecture including arches, columns, and mosaics, with special appreciation of natural, local materials, especially black, white, and earth tone stones.

Restaurants
The restaurant has been around for a long time; since the Greeks and the Romans. It varies from place to place. In general, a restaurant is a place where people pay money for their meal and atmosphere. Designers and architects continue working to improve restaurants in quality and uniqueness. In the past, when the cities and towns were created, populations grew, and bakeries were developed. This caused street trade to flourish because of incoming people from nearby towns and cities passing through. This was the start of the concept of eating out of the house. Also, when the Christians started to spread and traveling became easier, pilgrims started going different places to worship. Because it took time for people to reach their destinations, people stood in the road and sold food to hungry travelers. There were also rest areas for the people and their animals to rest and replenish with water. Then after that, they started bakeries and sold bread. This is how the idea of restaurants started and became more handy and more used by the people. Then people made it open to not just travelers, but to anyone who wished to dine outside of their home. The restaurant started improving and expanding more than anyone could imagine. The immigrants in the open world help and improve the way the restaurants become in the atmosphere, the variety of food, and culture. In the United States, you can try any type of food from anywhere in the world because of the variety in restaurants that exist. That makes it challenging for the designers and architects to incorporate the original cultural traits to reflect the type of food being sold in restaurants. Also, restaurants started to divide into categories such as fine dining, casual, fast food, bars, etc. This was another challenge for the designers and architects to define the type of restaurant. Nick Faulkes, a journalist, wrote in ES Magazine (March 3, 2000), “Over the past ten years, the concept of a restaurant visit as a special event has evaporated or at least mutated. It is no longer a matter of lunch or dinner, it is a lifestyle choice.” His point is very true, because eating in restaurants now is not just for eating purposes, but it’s a choice to enjoy a certain atmosphere. This gives designers, architects, and investors a wide range of choices to base their restaurant designs off of.

The proportions of the size of the letters changes in waves from left to right, suggesting a forward movement. Directly center under the restaurant name is “Italian Restaurant” reinforces what kind of restaurant it is, which is presented in the restaurant name. “Olive” is associated with Italy. The grape, pictured in the upper right hand corner of the logo is associated with Italy and Europe and tells that the restaurant serves wine and other similar beverages. The vines of the grapes represent happiness and movement. The logo looks as if it was hand-written onto a brick. The green color used in the letters is associated with the garden. The logo can’t be missed and is easy to recognize.
This logo is simple and easy to read. The size of the illustrated lobster is larger than the writing, suggesting that it is the main item served in the restaurant. The name of the restaurant is a description of the picture above it. There are only three colors: red, white, and blue. The shape of the box and the dome suggests a building. The lobster on top of it is moving forward. Red is the color of the lobster. Blue, which is used in the logo, is the color of the ocean, also suggesting that this is a seafood restaurant. The colors white and black are used to help the logo stand out.
The letters in the logo are on three different levels (of elevation). The font resembles Mexican writing, which suggests the type of food the restaurant offers. Also, the small pepper used as the apostrophe, is placed to represent Mexican food, and also to relate to the name. Green and red are both used because they are both associated with chili peppers. The letters are curved to match the shape of the pepper. The letters have different sizes, which suggest movement. On the other side, the Arabic logo matches the font, size, and curves of the English logo. The logo is successful, easy to read, and unforgettable.
